Pangea Day
Hong Kong Actively Prepares to Participate in Worldwide Event: Pangea Day- only 8 weeks left for Hong Kong to submit films!
What is Pangea Day…
Pangea Day is a unique and exceptional event, using the power of film to generate greater tolerance and compassion around the world while joining millions of people in the global community to build a better future.
Inspiration to launch Pangea Day started with one individual and has now extended around the globe. Full details of the inspiration and concept are available on the main website http://www.pangeaday.org/.
In a world where people are divided by borders, differences and conflicts, it’s easy to lose sight of what we all have in common. Pangea Day seeks to overcome this – to help people see themselves in others – through the power of film.
Of course, movies alone can’t change the world. But the people who watch them can. After Pangea Day, organizers will facilitate community-building activities around the world by connecting inspired viewers with numerous organizations which are already doing ground-breaking work.
The goal of Pangea Day is to bring together millions of people from all over the world in a unique shared experience to create a better understanding of one another and help form a global community striving for a better future.
When will it happen…
Pangea Day is on May 10th, 2008 when a worldwide community will gather to share in a live 4-hour program of powerful films, visionary speakers and uplifting music broadcast simultaneously from several major centers around the world.
This live broadcast will be transmitted at the same time on the Internet, television, digital cinemas and mobile phones. Individuals across the globe will gather in small and large groups to witness and share in this amazing event.
How is Hong Kong involved…
News about Pangea Day has spread quickly by word of mouth and has captured the attention of individual people here in Hong Kong, all volunteers who have quickly become passionate about the concept.
A website has now been launched at http://www.pangeadayhk.org/ to draw attention to local Pangea Day activities and events. The site is updated as new information is received and it is intended to allow the sharing of information about the day and to enable Hong Kong people to easily communicate, share ideas and support each other in our own Pangea Day celebrations.
We are encouraging participation by community groups, youth and social organizations, churches, and others who are involved in helping to transform our community or who want to share their own vision of our community.
What activities and events are happening in Hong Kong…
There are two main activities for Pangea Day in Hong Kong, one is encouraging individuals to create their own film presentation of topics or themes that are important to them and that they want to share with the world.
The other activity is finding a venue or multiple venues for Hong Kong people to share the live Pangea Day experience with millions of others around the world. We will gather at the same time that others in the global community will gather to all experience the same presentation.
This will be an amazing and unique event, and we want to be part of it! All activities in Hong Kong are community driven. Everyone involved is committed to promoting and actively participating in making this an important event that is destined to make a powerful impact on global communities, including our own.
For those wanting to create a film, professional filmmaking is not a requirement. Pangea Day is about individuals that want to share something important to them with the global community. Film making workshops are planned to help provide the basic steps for those who need it. The website Bulletin Boards have been designed to help offer and find resources for anyone working on their own project, such as camera operators and film editors. Films must be 5 minutes or less and themes are encouraged that reflect positive and inspirational messages about our own Hong Kong communities and all film projects must be submitted no later than January 15th, 2008.
How can media be involved…
The message about Pangea Day needs to be communicated as widely as possible and media can play a huge part in promoting this amazing event. There are many themes that can be presented about the Pangea Day concept such as , how it is being supported and promoted, how Hong Kong people are involved, what it means to our community, amongst others. We are actively promoting Pangea Day through all media including newspapers, television and radio companies, corporations, online and store-front businesses, etc.
Interviews can be arranged with one or more of our volunteers, we can provide further insight about what Pangea Day is all about and what it means to the people who are involved, and we are available to offer other ways of providing media contact and promotion.
